Nose
The 2017 Intrada is a beautiful expression of an elegant and mature Bordeaux-style Sauvignon Blanc. Luscious and chic, it shows a great balance of fruit aromas and oak characters. Aromas of grapefruit, lemon zest, orange blossom and white spring flowers harmoniously integrate with notes of vanilla and scotch caramel.
Palate
Though not as aromatic as Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon imparts structure and density, enhancing the mouthfeel and lending an “oily” sensation on the palate. Additionally, the Sémillon helps balance acidity and allows flavors and aromas to deliver a more lasting impression. The palate is full, complex and creamy with a nice acidity lingering on the finish. A wine with aging potential that will become increasingly interesting in the years to come.
Growing Conditions
In homage to the renowned white Bordeaux houses, Intrada is sourced solely from French clones (317 and 376). The Longwood Vineyard, where the grapes are grown, provides ideal conditions for showcasing the floral, citrus, and herbal aromas that these unique clones are known for. The 2017 vintage had an exceptionally wet winter, follow by a mild spring and hot summer with some of the warmest temperatures on record. A challenging year for white grapes as maturity and ripeness occurred almost simultaneously. However, Labor Day presented excellent conditions for final flavor development and promoted optimal ripeness for picking fruit.
Winemaking
Intrada is a Bordeaux-style Sauvignon Blanc with a small percentage of Sémillon added to the blend that varies from year-to-year based on the characteristics of the vintage.
