Palate

This is a wine that shows white pepper and spice
from the Zinfandel, brightness from the Petite Sirah and classic aromatics of plum
and black fruit from the Primitivo, all enhanced with notes of clove and sage.
The 2012 Field Blend is showing beautifully and is ready to enjoy

Growing Conditions

Oakville Ranch is the original mountain vineyard of the Oakville sub-appellation,
a tiny district that produces some of Napa Valley’s most celebrated Cabernets.
A place of dramatic beauty and dedication to organic farming, Oakville Ranch
farms its hollows and terraces in a well-planned program of sustainability, and has
crafted singular wines expressive of its distinctive terroir since 1989.

In the tradition of Napa Valley’s early grape growers, the varietals for Oakville
Ranch Field Blend are grown on a single Oakville hillside vineyard block,
then harvested and fermented together, producing a lively, fruit-driven wine
that’s perfect for everyday consumption. Field Blend is a blend of Zinfandel,
Primitivo, and Petite Sirah, larger berried varieties which are very sensitive to
the individuality of the seasons. Growing and fermenting them together creates
a degree of balance from year to year, while still reflecting the characteristics
of the vintage. The 2012 vintage was marked by a gentle growing season that
allowed gradual ripening.
