Palate

Aromatics of dark fruit, plum and spice with notes of chocolate and violet are made prevalent in a wine that exhibits denseness, opulence and softness. There is almost a merlot-ish quality to the wine even though it represents only 5% of the blend.

Growing Conditions

This vineyard is located on the eastern side of Saint Helena, at the base of the Mayacamas and is protected from the northern and western winds. This old river bench settles mostly large gravelly sediments and a small portion of thinner clay particles which explains why varietals such as Cabernet sauvignon, Petit verdot and Merlot were planted. This 3.5 acre estate is reminiscent of the Graves area of Bordeaux.

The wine from this vineyard displays classic profile of gravelly soils characteristics; dark and red cherry layered with spices, the wine is perfume, seductive and refined.

Soil composition: Gravelly loam Year Planted: 1999 Size: 3.5 acres Vine spacing: 3’ x 6’ Location: East of downtown St. Helena Clones: 337 for Cab; 181 for Merlot; 400 for Petit verdot Elevation: Valley floor

The 2013 vintage will most likely go down in history as one of the best for the Napa Valley and this site, despite the grandness of the vintage, has stayed true to its style that is inherent from this vineyard. So much like the Graves area in Bordeaux, the wine is perfumy, layered and rich without being overripe.
