Nose

The aromatics exhibit dark fruit with cassis and black cherry, crushed rocks, anise along with hints of sweet oak.

Palate

This well-structured wine expresses the vineyard marvelously with more overall minerality and great acidity. The length and finesse that show through the finish are a clear example of how a superbly crafted wine can demonstrate dark fruit expression, structure, brightness and still retain its elegance.

Growing Conditions

This vineyard is located on the eastern side of Saint Helena, at the base of the Mayacamas and is protected from the northern and western winds. This old river bench settles mostly large gravelly sediments and a small portion of thinner clay particles which explains why varietals such as Cabernet sauvignon, Petit verdot and Merlot were planted. This 3.5 acre estate is reminiscent of the Graves area of Bordeaux.

The wine from this vineyard displays classic profile of gravelly soils characteristics; dark and red cherry layered with spices, the wine is perfume, seductive and refined.

Soil composition: Gravelly loam Year Planted: 1999 Size: 3.5 acres Vine spacing: 3’ x 6’ Location: East of downtown St. Helena Clones: 337 for Cab; 181 for Merlot; 400 for Petit verdot Elevation: Valley floor

With the 2012 harvest being nothing short of spectacular, the resultant Jumping Goat is clearly the most robust wine we’ve produced from this river bench vineyard.
