2015 is a vintage of power and concentration, and our Henry’s Keep boasts flavors of black currants, violets, camphor, black tea and rose oil. This is a deliciously complex wine, with layers of flavors that unwind from its black-fruited, mountainous core. The soils, elevation and climate have united in such a uniquely magical way, producing a wine of intensity and ageability.
A gorgeous 2018 vintage produced stunning fruit on Bald Mountain; longer hang time led to terrific flavor and beautifully structured wines. Our 2018 Zinfandel, Bald Mountain is a blend of Zinfandel rounded out with a small amount of Petite Syrah. These two varieties complement one another, resulting in a wine that is forward with dark, jammy fruit displaying notes of boysenberry, black cherry and plum, finishing with firm tannins that give length on the palate.
The 2018 vintage was a long, slightly cool season, devoid of heat spikes and late rains which offered ample hangtime through a glorious autumn for the fruit to mature without losing its underpinning structure and true character. The beauty of this ridgetop vineyard is its ability to produce wines of structure and balance. Our 2018 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is the essence of Mount Veeder, a beguiling balance of complex, sophisticated aromatics and fruit intensity wed to a core of taut yet silky tannins. Notes of cassis, lingonberry, black cherry, and crushed cocoa come to the fore with hints of violets, thyme, black tea, and kirsch all layer on a bed of velvety tannin.
2018 was a beautifully even vintage, somewhat cooler than the preceding vintages, allowing the vines ample hang time in ideal conditions. Coming from vines that are over 90 years old and completely dry farmed, this wine offers fresh, crushed berry character and innate mountain concentration which comes to the fore in a clean, sophisticated, and evenly stylized Zinfandel. This is a fine, distinctive, and evocative wine, showcasing a sense of place. Notes of bright berry and raspberry preserve with hints of violet and bay leaf spice uniquely distinguish this site from other Zinfandel vineyards, while our dry farming technique lends concentration and a nice sweet chewiness to the tannins, pulling you back for another taste.
Our second standalone bottling of Cabernet Franc invites us back to enjoy what is the most ethereal of the Bordeaux varieties. On our Mount Veeder Estate, our 2018 Cabernet Franc offers briary, earthy, forest floor characteristics, backed by a beautiful amalgam of red and black fruits with an emphasis on the spicy, savory notes. Aged for 22 months in medium toast barrels, the sweet oak supports the fine tannins and elegant turn of this wine.
Our 2017 Brandlin Red Blend explores the synergy of Bordeaux varieties. The floral and jammy fruit elements from our mountainside Malbec and Petit Verdot come to the forefront, alongside lovely notes of black fruit, currant, spice, mocha-cocoa and black cassis from our Cabernet Sauvignon, adding firm and supple tannins to carry the flavors along through its silky finish.
Our 2016 Brandlin ThS Cabernet Sauvignon is the ultimate bottling from our Brandlin Estate. Blended with a touch of Malbec and Petit Verdot, this wine offers notes of blackberry, black cherry, cassis, and violet aromas of sandalwood, cardamom, cocoa, and mocha. Fine grained, silky tannins with a velvety core of plush fruit give the wine weight and volume, but also a well-honed balance. Its 30 months in barrel allowed the wine to soften and marry while integrating the oak and tannin with an ample core of fruit. Named in honor of Thomas Schmidheiney, proprietor of Brandlin, the ThS honor’s the family’s legacy and commitment to world class wines.
