Nose
Proving that power and nuance are not always mutually exclusive, the 2010 Paradiso is deep and impressively extracted, with cocoa, licorice and tobacco aromas.
Palate
Plentiful, optimally-ripened black fruit flavors currant, blackberry and cassis. This is partnered with complementary oak spice and seasoned with a subtle briariness.
Growing Conditions
Powerful, nuanced, and impeccably balanced. This is V. Sattui's fourth vintage of Paradiso, our red proprietary, Bordeaux-style blend that changes in varietal composition from vintage to vintage. The 2010 Paradiso, from one of the longest and coolest growing seasons in Napa Valley, is a blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot and 5% Petite Verdot. The Cabernet comes from three different vineyard locations: 40-year old vines from Preston Vineyard in Rutherford, bringing bright, very and ripe, dusty notes; hillside, VSP-trained vines at Henry Ranch in the cooler Mt. Veeder appellation, offering color and concentrated fruit flavors; and the gravelly soils of Morisoli Vineyard on the Rutherford Bench, where volcanic deposits as well as alluvial deposits produce big, muscular Cabernets. The Merlot is also from Henry Ranch in Los Carneros, where the deeper soils near Carneros Creek provide excellent pigment and fine-grain tannins in the wine; and the Petite Verdot comes from Vittorio's Vineyard, our certified organic vineyard adjacent to V. Sattui winery in St. Helena.
