Growing Conditions

From the famed Rutherford Bench, this wine always delivers with elegance and finesse. This wine comes from Gary & Melody Morisoli’s Vineyard located in the heart of the famed “Rutherford Bench”. Gary is a third-generation farmer on this property, a special part of Napa Valley known for well-drained, gravelly soils which produce fine-grain, supple tannins in the wine and where some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley is grown. The vine rows are oriented on a direction that is slightly North-West by South-East with a “V-trellis” that allows optimum filtered light to hit the ripening grape clusters. Clone 7 Cabernet Sauvignon is grafted to 110R rootstock on this very cobbly and rocky ground. Gary typically uses very limited irrigation during the growing season, essentially dry-farming in most years. The vines were planted in 1990 and V. Sattui has been harvesting these grapes to make a single-vineyard designate since the first small harvest of 1993.
