Nose

Expressive and inviting, the 2012 Staglin Cabernet Sauvignon marvels in its animated nose of ripe red fruits and crème de cassis melding with a cinnamon-infused, moist chocolate cake given lift by high-toned notes of camphor and spring flowers.

Palate

The generous and supple palate of sweet black raspberries, red plums and blueberry compote liberally swirled with couverture chocolate and cocoa nibs slides seamlessly through a silkily textured exit enlivened by a saline- inflected mineral undercurrent that dissolves into a finish of powdery, fine-grained tannins. While ready to go and ready to give now, this wine will reward additional cellaring.

Growing Conditions

The ideal 2012 growing season was classic Napa Valley – great conditions during budbreak through flowering got things off to a great start followed by a Goldilocks summer of “just right” days and cool, foggy nights. A nice warmer stretch from late July through mid -August helped ripen the ample crop and set-up the near perfect September stretch and October finish that gave the fruit the extended hangtime we were hoping for.
