Growing Conditions

Morisoli Vineyard consists of 53 contiguous acres on the famed Rutherford Bench in the Napa Valley. Gary Morisoli is the fourth generation of his family to grow grapes on this historic property, which has been family-farmed for over 100 years. Primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, the fruit from this vineyard is some of the most sought after in the Napa Valley. Surrounded by Staglin Family Vineyard, Scarecrow, Joseph Phelps Vineyards and Inglenook, Morisoli Vineyard fruit exhibits classic “Rutherford Dust” qualities and rich Cabernet Sauvignon character.

2012 is widely regarded as one of the best vintages on record for Napa Valley winemaking. The ideal year began with a mild spring and no frosts, and continued with a summer and fall that brought warm, even temperatures and no heat waves. Throughout the growing season the vines enjoyed warm days and cool nights, allowing a long, slow ripening that resulted in beautifully balanced wines with fully developed flavors and fresh acidity.

Winemaking

Dense ruby-purple in color, this full-bodied wine opens with aromas of allspice, cinnamon and nutmeg leading to rich and complex flavors of black currant, blackberry, plum and cocoa powder. Framed by firm but refined tannins, it opens beautifully after an hour in a decanter revealing a soft, velvety structure. It is a wine that displays the power and elegance so characteristic of this vineyard.
