Nose

Big and bold with rich aromas of black cherry fruit, black currants, floral notes of violets and mocha, vanilla and cinnamon in the bouquet.

Palate

Our spicy Rutherford Cabernet from the tiny Preston Vineyard is complex and has elegant, plush fine-grain tannins on the palate.

Growing Conditions

A classic Napa Valley Cabernet from the famous Rutherford sub-appellation. The Preston Vineyard is located in the Rutherford Appellation, where some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley is grown. This was one of the first cabernet vineyards that Dario Sattui was drawn to in the early years. It is a very small region of Napa, known for its gravelly soils which produce rich, alluring and opulent red wines with fine-grained tannins and incredible complexity. The alluvial soils from Mount St. John have washed down from the hills over millennia to create a unique layering of weathered rock and gravel mixed with clay. The vines are 40-plus years old, 10’ X 8’ spacing and trained to a divided canopy, or “Quad”. The trellis allows ample light penetration on the fruit creating perfect flavor development and excellent maturity in the grapes at harvest.
