Palate

An elegant, well-balanced Zin from the fertile Lodi area, known for vibrant and delicious early-drinking Zinfandels. The 2014 Pilgrim exhibits undisguised ripeness, along with a good measure of slightly jammy, pepper-accented blackberry fruit. Rich, complex and deeply flavored wine. There is ample Zinfandel spice, but it's not overly briary or stemmy. Its tannins are soft and there's an elegance about this wine that is not found in many Zinfandels, which often tend to be very fruit-forward. Layers of licorice, pipe tobacco and sweet oak add further interest in this already very drinkable wine. Our Pilgrim Zinfandel is a very rich and fleshy, full-bodied wine that could benefit by up to another two or three years of bottle-age.
