The 1986 Opus One is an elegant wine of great depth, complexity and structure that promises tremendous aging potential. Full oak, black cherry and cassis aromas are enhanced by slight spice and vanilla undertones.

Growing Conditions

Opus One was founded by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, legendary proprietor of Château
Mouton Rothschild, and renowned Napa Valley vintner Robert Mondavi. By combining the
great winemaking traditions and innovations of both families, the founders’ singular goal was
to create an exceptional wine in the heart of Napa Valley.
Opus One, like any great work, arose out of passion. Dedicated to uncompromised quality,
Opus One’s sole purpose is to express this vision and passionate spirit for generations to come.

The 1986 Napa Valley harvest closely resembled that of 1985 - one of the finest ever recorded in the region. Slightly drier conditions resulted in a reduced crop of Cabernet fruit of even greater intensity than the grapes harvested in 1985. An early bud-break was followed by a long, temperate growing season that produced extremely well-balanced grapes.
