Nose

There are cooler climate notes mixed with the ripe fruit flavors typical of warm seasons. Cassis, pepper, plum, berry, cocoa and nutmeg-like spice make up some of the aromas after short decanting.

Palate

Black tea, leather, raspberry candy, ripe cherry and pepper flavors are carried by persistent tannins, creating a lingering, dark fruit finish that shows well now and should continue to improve with additional bottle aging.

Growing Conditions

A wet winter and spring with rainfall into mid-June started off another cooler than average growing season in Napa Valley. Hopes for a strong year after 2010 were slightly jeopardized by October rains, resulting in some loss of fruit to Botrytis but fortunately the sun and dry weather came back and arrested the spread of mold. Careful selection in the vineyard allowed the harvest of a wonderful Cabernet crop, just a bit later than normal.

Our 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits classic, old and new world characters of the varietal with one of the broadest spectrums of aromas and flavors we’ve seen from these vineyards.
