Nose

Notes of ripe blackberry, licorice, fresh ground pepper, and a hint of toasted oak.

Palate

On the palate, it exhibits flavors of black cherry, fennel, and spices, with structured tannins and excellent depth and concentration.

Growing Conditions

2013 proved to be an excellent year in Napa Valley. It was slightly
warmer than 2012, resulting in an overall earlier growing season.
Lower than normal rainfall paired with moderate spring weather
brought early bud break and bloom. Sunny skies throughout the
summer months led to early veraison and harvest. Warm daytime
temperatures followed by cool nights produced evenly ripened fruit
with ideal hang time.

Aging

Rolando’s goal is to embrace the true character of this varietal and not squander its natural bold structure. We extract as much tannin as possible and age it for 22 months in 100% new French oak barrels.

Appearance

Deep ruby red in color.

Food Pairing

This wine is already a meal in a glass. Aromas of smoked brisket make us want to drive down to Texas for some BBQ, stat. Alternatively, jump on a plane to Rome for some rigatoni with spicy sausage.
