Palate

The inviting bouquet offers dense fruit aromas of wild blackberry, currant, and stewed blueberry, balanced with a deep floral layer of lavender, while hints of vanilla and earth pull them all together. Intense in its structure but overlaid with a seductive silkiness, the dense and chewy mountain fruit dances in the glass with playful notes of spice and creamy oak. The deep and rich fruit can be appreciated for its power and purity now while cellaring well for over 20 years. A stunning Howell Mountain beauty of a Cabernet.

Growing Conditions

The year began with abundant rainfall. Spring weather was cool, resulting in extended flowering in some areas with little shatter, but vines were vigorous thanks to the ample winter rains. Three heat events kicked harvest into high gear but with cool weather arriving immediately afterward, sugar levels to returned to normal. Most late-ripening red grapes continued to hang on the vine and were picked over the next few weeks. By October 8 (when the wine country wildfires started) 90 percent of the 2017 grape tonnage had been picked across the Valley, including all at Lamborn. Another “picture perfect” growing season in beautiful Napa Valley.
