Palate
Minerality is the backbone, not tannins. Black cherry, blackberry, and roasted earth are the hallmarks of this wine. It's never over the top, more Hermitage-like.
Growing Conditions
Two specific blocks of 470 Syrah selection are used to create our 100% Syrah from Rockpile Vineyard. Block 1 is heavier in granite and more rocky with larger rocks which add structure and finesse. Block 2 is comprised of more gravel and clay loam which adds body, and a smaller berry selection is intense, deep, and rich.
Winemaking
30% Whole cluster, hand punch down 5 times a day in open top fermenters.
Aging
16 months 60% New French oak-228L and 350L barrels.
