Palate

The Sagrantino from Jacuzzi Family Vineyards is a bold wine with brooding red fruits, a touch of orange and rich mulled wine characteristics. On the palate pomegranate and plum meld with cinnamon and cloves to give a complex wine that has fine tannins and an elegant finish.

Growing Conditions

We were lucky to find Jeff Brown, who is a meticulous farmer with an eye for unusual varieties. His vineyards are in a “mineral resource zone” designated by the US Geological Service do to the high gravel content of the soil. In Italy the grape is grown in the region of Umbria, which is south of Tuscany and North of Rome. This well-drain vineyard is located in the Tracy Hills appellation in San Joaquin County, California. Jeff uses “deficit irrigation” to enhance the flavors and create exceptional grapes.

Winemaking

The grapes are brought to the winery at peak ripeness and are gently destemmed and transferred to our temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. Here they spend up to 14 days on skins where a clean yeast is introduced to begin fermentation. When fermentation is nearing completion we taste for just the right flavors before gently pressing the wine off the grapes. The wine is quickly settled before being racked to barrel.

Aging

10 months in 35% new French oak.
