Nose

Our 2015 Primitivo exhibits classic aromas of strawberry, cranberry jam, rhubarb, currants, green olive and coffee with toasty notes of oak.

Palate

The palate is full with fresh acidity and beautifully rich tannin that lingers throughout with a rich, opulent finish.

Growing Conditions

Our Primitivo grapes come from a beautiful hillside vineyard on the north side of Clear Lake in Lake County. The grapes are on well-drained soil and planted on wire. The combination of rolling hills and nurturing heat ripen this vineyard and retain the great acidity and flavor this variety is known for.

Winemaking

The grapes are hand picked and trucked to our winery. The stems are removed from the clusters without crushing the berries – a gentle process that minimizes the bitter components from skins and seeds. The grapes are introduced to a pure strain of wine yeast in stainless steel tanks, and the bright, crisp flavors begin to emerge as fermentation progresses. The wine is then “pressed” off the skins, minimizing bitterness from seeds and skin, settled and racked to American Oak, of which approximately 30% is new.
