Palate

Our Muscat Canelli has sweet floral aromas that billow out of the bottle upon opening. The palate picks up ripe pear, apricot, peach and honey, with a light finish that helps balance its crisp acidity.

Growing Conditions

The grapes for this wine are from the highest elevation vineyard in Sonoma County, which offers rocky volcanic soils, with excellent drainage; an ideal spot to nurture late ripening fruit such as Muscat. Our vineyard practices focus on emphasizing the extravagant floral and citrus characteristics typical of this varietal.

It was a wet winter going into the 2016 growing season. We are accustom to working with limited amounts of water due to years of drought conditions. But this year we were worried about abundance. Strategic planning on the part of our vineyard team, and Biodynamic farming, has always seen us through the trying times and 2016 had us on our toes. Despite early season warmth and rain challenges, once we hit ripening season, harvest had great weather for hanging fruit to reach full maturity; not too hot, not too cold, just enough to achieve ideal flavors and balance.

Winemaking

We whole berry press and use only the free run juice to preserve the wine’s beautiful delicacy. Cold fermentation in stainless steel tanks maintains the fragile flavors during fermentation.
