Growing Conditions
2018 growing season began in late February followed by a mild spring. Bud break and flowering were a little late, but this helped achieve an even and plentiful fruit set. We had a relatively mild summer with no major heat waves that extended some of the harvest well into November.
Rutherford AVA is six square miles with primarily three different soil types: gravelly, sandy, and loamy. The most predominant is the Franciscan marine sedimentary with some volcanic deposits. One of the most unique aspects of this AVA is that it has a higher radiant value than any other area in Napa Valley. Since the area is located at the widest part of Napa Valley it spends more time in the sun.
Aging
19 months of barrel aging took place in 100% new French oak.
