Growing Conditions

 2018 growing season began in late February followed by a mild spring. Bud break and flowering were a little late, but this helped achieve an even and plentiful fruit set. We had a relatively mild summer with no major heat waves that extended some of the harvest well into November.

 Rutherford AVA is six square miles with primarily three different soil types: gravelly, sandy, and loamy. The most predominant is the Franciscan marine sedimentary with some volcanic deposits. One of the most unique aspects of this AVA is that it has a higher radiant value than any other area in Napa Valley. Since the area is located at the widest part of Napa Valley it spends more time in the sun.

Aging

 19 months of barrel aging took place in 100% new French oak.
