Nose

With this wine you’ll find an abundance of floral – honeysuckle and lilac notes, with a suggestion of citrus, both orange flower and orange and lemon zest. The fragrance of Viognier is said to be haunting, and there is nothing as haunting as the fleeting aromatic suggestion of the skin of a pear.

Palate

On the palate, there’s a soft, creamy texture with just a subliminal suggestion of sweetness. One can’t help but conceive of this wine as springtime in a glass.

Growing Conditions

Viognier, being a northern Rhône grape variety, does its best work when grown on very cool sites with yields well controlled, and the Shokrian Vineyard in the protected canyons of Los Alamos meets both of these criteria.

Food Pairing

Smoked trout mousse. Grilled oysters. Panang curry with shrimp, chicken, or tofu. Chicken and apricot tagine. Grilled fish tacos with pineapple salsa (halibut, mahi mahi or rockfish would all be lovely). Roasted root vegetables (parsnips, carrots, butternut squash). Bellwether Farms Carmody cheese.
