Nose
A beautifully concentrated wine with aromas of blackberry pie, nutmeg, forest
floor and mint.
Palate
On the palate, flavors of raspberry jam, vanilla, sage and menthol are framed by firm, ripe tannins, all of which evolve into a compact, dense finish.
Growing Conditions
Named for founder Mario Trinchero, this 13-acre vineyard surrounds our winery
in St. Helena. Located on benchland off the slope of Spring Mountain, its mix of
gravel, loam and alluvial soils is ideally suited for opulent Cabernet Sauvignon
with bright fruit, impressive structure and velvety tannins.
Harvest
The 2016 growing season offered ideal conditions. It was a warm and moderate
vintage with no major heat spikes, and the soil profiles were full, allowing for full
canopy growth. September brought cooler days and cold nights, which extended
the harvest window for most vineyards. These cooler conditions allowed for
longer hang time with gradual sugar development, resulting in wines with striking
aromatics, nuanced flavors and exceptional balance.
Bottling
Our Signature Cabernet Sauvignon, the only Trinchero Napa Valley bottling to bear Mario’s autograph, represents the most coveted vineyard blocks on three of our estate vineyards: Mario’s Vineyard in St. Helena, Haystack Vineyard in Atlas Peak and Cloud’s Nest Vineyard in Mt. Veeder. Crafted during only those vintages of exceptional caliber, this illustrious wine is blended from a mere eight barrels, hand-selected for their superior aromatics and incredibly complex layers of flavor. This is a wine that speaks to the extraordinary terroir of our finest vineyards. It’s a wine that could only be made in Napa Valley—both for its homage to our family heritage and for its legendary style in the glass. We make only 200 cases of Signature, available exclusively to connoisseurs on our Signature Acquisition List. Our limited-edition, three-bottle set is presented in a classic heirloom box bearing an elegant rendering of Mario Trinchero’s signature.
