When our first wine, The Prisoner, was released two decades ago as a complex blend of some of California’s best and most unusual grape varieties, it swiftly and permanently changed the perception of what a red blend wine could be. 

Since then, we’ve grown to include a range of rule-bending blends with provocative label designs, being recognized by fans and wine critics alike as one of the most bold and innovative wine brands in the market, leading the resurgence of California luxury red blends and earning “cult” wine status.

Today, our Director of Winemaking Chrissy Wittmann and her team work with over 100 growers in northern California, bringing together exceptional fruit to produce a family of intriguing wines unrestricted by tradition.  The Prisoner Wine Company is located on the legendary Highway29 in Napa Valley and welcomes visitors year-round for unexpected, immersive experiences.

The epitome of The Prisoner's renowned style, Dérangé is crafted from varietals spanning the best lots across the portfolio, combining high-elevation Cabernet Sauvignon and premium lots of Syrah, and Petite Sirah.

The Prisoner Red Blend was inspired by the wines first made by the Italian immigrants who originally settled in Napa Valley. The Prisoner is now the most recognized Napa Valley red blend, leading the resurgence of interesting blends by incorporating Zinfandel with the unlikely mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Syrah, and Charbono.

An aurally enticing name that attests to this red wine's origins as a slice of The Prisoner Red Blend. Defined as a slender, sharp piece, the word has an edge and alludes to what’s missing and what’s present. With its closeness to shiver and slither, this sensorially provocative name creeps towards us, but also carries an undercurrent of positivity, a sliver of hope.
