A bouquet of dark berry, plum and sweet oak on the nose, accompanied by toasted oak and a hint of sweet tobacco.

Harvest

The winter of 2016-2017 broke the drought for most of California. Napa Valley received much needed rainfall throughout the season, totaling almost 60 inches of rain. The vines responded with full, healthy canopies for the long growing season. The weather was warm and sunny all season, which allowed the fruit to ripen at a slow and steady pace.

Winemaking

Our 2017 Franklin Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from our family’s Franklin estate vineyard in Napa Valley’s Rutherford appellation. Of the valley’s 16 AVAs (American Viticultural Area), this region’s terroir has an unsurpassed reputation for producing world-class Cabernets. The
8-acre vineyard, bordered by the Silverado Trail and Zinfandel Lane, forms the appellation’s northeast corner. The western edge of the property is bordered by the Napa River, a major passageway for steelhead trout and Chinook salmon. Environmentally friendly farming methods ensure that the river maintains its healthy, pristine condition. The vineyard’s Pleasanton soil series produces fruit characterized by earthy aromas, flavors of black currant and the ideal tannin structure necessary for extended aging. Hand-selected lots were harvested to produce only 401 cases of individually numbered bottles of this outstanding vintage.

Aging

18 months in French oak
