Growing Conditions
2014 is the first vintage of this limited production Cabernet Sauvignon - Mauser.
The historic Priest Ranch is now part of the Somerston Estate, a significant property totaling 1,615 acres, with 222 acres planted to hillside vineyards. Dramatic elevations of the vineyards define and distinguish the estate, ranging from 800 ft to 2,400 ft above sea level. In 2014, the grapes for this wine were selected from the hillside Blocks 56, 58 and 136.
The 2014 vintage was a classic, near-perfect growing season with warm days and cold nights. The mild summer and warm weather after verasion caused the fruit to develop with good balance, great flavors, bright acidity and mature, well-developed tannins. Only three barrels of this limited production Cabernet Sauvignon were produced
Harvest
The Cabernet Sauvignon harvest for Mauser began on September 10th and ended on September 26th, slightly later than the valley floor.
Bottling
The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered on Jan. 23, 2018.
Winemaking
Our 2014 Mauser was handpicked, sorted, and fermented naturally.
Aging
Aged for 24 months in 100% new French oak barrels. The lees stirred for the first year followed by three racking in the second year of aging.
