Palate

2018 This is a real blockbuster Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is fat and rich with deftly textured tannins. The weight is intense here and stays with you for ages as the finish goes from blackberry to violets to orange blossom, lingering for what seems like an eternity. There is a very small percentage of Cabernet Franc that lifts the mid palate and brightens the intense aromatics.

Red and black currants, plum, toffee, cherry, raspberry, forest floor, tar and cocoa dense attack rich, dense and solidly structured bold and fresh with perfect acidity and firm tannins and lots of promise for a wonderful future. A potentially legendary Cabernet Sauvignon for the collector.

Growing Conditions

At the top of Mt. Veeder Road in the neighborhood of Mayacamas, Promontory and Lagier-Meredith.

Well-drained, weathered sandstone and shale. The vineyard is often above the fog in the morning. Daytime highs are cooler than the Napa Valley floor. At dusk the inversion brings the warm air upward to warm Mt. Veeder. This leads to wines that display better ripeness at lower alcohol levels – thus better balanced.
