Nose

Full of raspberry jam, cassis and spicy aromas that accompany the cedar and oak notes.

Palate

With a higher acidity than our mountain vineyard wines, this has a bright and lively mouth-feel that emphasizes the red, fresh fruit. A sweet baked/brown sugar and molasses character also give the impression of dried cherries and cassis. Ample tannins give this a wine a powerful and lingering finish.

(Updated Notes Sep 2015) --- Lovely raspberry fruit, nutmeg spice, cedar and the classic Rutherford Dust texture. Rich and lush – generous flavors cover tongue while a velvety tannin presents a great balance while flavors range from ripe fruit to tobacco to berry syrup. Very showy for a wine with 5-1/2 years of bottle age.

Growing Conditions

Our Rutherford Dust comes from my Manley Lane property that I started farming in the early 1970’s. The ranch is farmed organically, certified with the CCOF and this year produced a lovely, intense Cabernet Sauvignon. Some valley floor vineyards will produce plumper berries resulting in lighter color and intensity but not here. It was a year for small berries in this heart of Napa Valley site and the result is a firm, age-worthy wine.
