Palate
This wine offers a very fresh entry, with surprisingly smooth tannins. Violets, graphite, blueberry pie, dark chocolate and raspberry jam on the finish. A balanced wine with a lot of freshness and fermentary notes. Power in a silk glove, this is a very versatile and delicious wine. With proper cellaring, it will evolve beautifully for 10 to 15 years.
Growing Conditions
Juliana Vineyards rewards attention to detail with world-class Petite Sirah. The Petite Sirah is one of Winemaker Simon Faury’s favorite varietals to make because it is very tricky and requires a lot of sensitivity.
Bottling
Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Winemaking
The tannins are very easy to over extract and quite often wines end up way too tannic. The grapes are hand-picked in the early morning hours to preserve the freshness and skin integrity of the fruit. Simon ferments the fruit at a low temperature to promote flavors and limit bitterness and too much extraction.
Aging
The wine was aged for 16 months in French oak barrels (20% new).
Appearance
Deep purple in color.
Food Pairing
This Petite Sirah with pair well with a variety of grilled meats—lamb, short ribs and burgers are our favorites.
