Nose

The 2015 Lunatic Red has dark, concentrated depth, flowing with notes of blueberry and blackberry with the spiciness of vanilla and nutmeg.

Palate

Flavors of boysenberry compote greet the palate with underlying swirls of bacon and hints of violet. Lush, velvety tannins round out a long finish.

Growing Conditions

This wine is about innovation and discovery. For that reason, we go out of our way to find unusual vineyards and uncommon varietals. Every vintage is a unique blend according to the amount of each varietal grown in any given year. Lunatic Red proves that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts; in combination, these wines create more than you would expect.

Winemaking

Each varietal is treated individually, traditionally fermented, and barrel aged for 18 months. Sangiovese was chosen because of its vibrant blackberry character. Malbec was added to give complex savory attributes. Petite Sirah lends a soft, but strong tannin backbone. Alicante Bouschet imparts dense black fruits and baking spices.
