As the first sparkling wine house in California’s renowned Carneros region, Gloria Ferrer Caves & Vineyards was established in 1986 by the Ferrer family. Gloria Ferrer embodies winegrowing history, time-honored tradition, and centuries-old winemaking practices in creating exceptional sparkling and estate varietal wines blended to pair perfectly with food. With most of our 335-acre estate dedicated to Pinot Noir, we believe that this enigmatic variety brings a timeless grace to our sparkling and estate varietal wines. This timeless grace comes from the Ferrer family’s culture of generosity which is expressed in their commitment to high-quality, affordable wines crafted for everyone to enjoy.

The Pinot Noir from our Rust Rock Vineyard shows highly distinctive characteristics vintage after vintage. The outstanding flavors and textural qualities of this unique terroir prompted us to create this single-lot bottling. Comprised of shallow, rocky, volcanic soils situated on the uppermost hillside at the northwest end of our Circle Bar Ranch vineyard, the Rust Rock Vineyard produces wines with elegant fruit characteristics and silky mouth feel.

One small section of the Gloria Ferrer Estate vineyards produces Pinot Noir of incomparable quality. Gravel Knob, as the name implies, has rocky soils, which causes the vines to struggle, putting all their effort into the fruit. This wine showcases Sonoma Carneros Pinot Noir at its finest, and is only available to purchase through our wine club.

The Gravel Knob vineyard is comprised of several blocks on the hillside closest to the winery, our Home Ranch. Only a small selection of the grapes from this 30-acre vineyard block is used to craft this unique Pinot Noir with impressive and intricate flavors.

Eleven soil types and a variety of Pinot Noir clones & selections, varied terrain plus the daily effects of cooling summer breezes & morning fog combine to produce exceptional wine from our 335 acre estate vines in Carneros. As our understanding & development of our terroir grows, our estate Pinot Noir gains complexity & consistency. There have been 22nd Carneros Pinot Noir vintage that we have released.

There are more clones of Pinot Noir than any other variety. Many of the most respected clones were developed in Dijon, France and are commonly referred to in California as "Dijon" clones. One clone in particular, 115 grown on the hillside of our Circle Bar Ranch, has the tannins, structure and well rounded fruit needed to be a stand alone wine. 

José named Gloria Ferrer Caves and Vineyards to honour his loving wife. In turn, we named our finest Pinot Noir to honour José. This is a very select blend, chosen specifically to showcase the quality of our Carneros estate vineyard. The most exceptional blocks from our 335-acre Carneros vineyards are selected each for this bottling.

Our Blanc de Noirs is predominantly made from hand-harvested Pinot Noir grapes, the hallmarks of which are a vibrant red fruit character. The creamy palate and rosy hue are a result of a small addition of Vin Gris, which was blended into the base cuvée. Over forty different clones and selections of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are planted on our 340-acre estate in the Sonoma Carneros district. This allows us to consistently produce cuvées with complexity and clear fruit expression.

The Sonoma Brut has been carefully crafted entirely from hand-harvested Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. Over forty different selections of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are planted on our 340-acre estate in the Sonoma Carneros district. It is this viticultural diversity that allows us to consistently produce cuvées with complexity and clear fruit expression. The Brut is dominated by Pinot Noir, a stylistic decision enabling the complex aromatic and palate profile that this red-skinned grape contributes to Brut cuvées.
