Frank Family Vineyards was founded in 1992 by former Disney Studios President, Rich Frank. First constructed as the Historic Larkmead Winery in 1884, the stone building on property is the third oldest in Napa and appears on the National Register of Historical Places. Today, Frank Family has grown to encompass more than 380 acres of vineyards across Napa Valley’s most acclaimed appellations. Frank Family welcomes guests daily to the property’s original yellow Craftsman house, home to their iconic tasting room, named “Best Napa Winery” by the Bay Area A-List for an unprecedented eight years in a row. Frank Family Vineyards has built a reputation as a world-class producer of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, as well as méthode champenoise sparkling wines, Petite Sirah, Pinot Noir, Sangiovese, and Zinfandel.

After twenty years of working as a winemaker in every corner of the world, Winemaker and General Manager, Todd Graff landed at Calistoga’s Frank Family Vineyards in 2003, just an hour drive over the mountains from his hometown of Petaluma. He has yet to look back.

Graff has played an essential role in Frank Family’s steady growth over the last 17 vintages. At Frank Family, Graff has applied his deep expertise in making both still and sparkling wines to the portfolio and has been an integral player in defining Frank Family’s reputation as a world-class producer of Napa Valley Cabernet and Chardonnay. He directed the construction of Frank Family’s new state-of-the-art winery in 2008, worked
closely with Rich Frank on the acquisition of the historic Wood Ranch Vineyard in Rutherford in 2012, and in 2015 helped Frank Family receive Napa Green certification for both land and winery. In both 2012 and 2017, Frank Family was recognized for its “resounding, across-the-board success” and received the Winery of the Year accolade from the Connoisseur’s Guide to California Wine. 

Graff was drawn to winemaking at a young age and signed up for an introductory wine course while attending Santa Rosa Jr. College. He then graduated from UC Davis with a degree in plant science and viticulture in 1984.

Upon his graduation, Graff circled the globe working for great producers. He worked in the cellar at Joseph Phelps Vineyards before navigating the steep slate vineyards at Weingut Klaus Schweicher in Mosel, Germany, the sandy soils of Château Yon-Figeac in Saint-Émilion, France, and the decomposed granite and sandstone loam soils at Arrowfield Estate in Australia’s Hunter Valley.

He returned to the Napa Valley in 1987 to work as an Assistant Winemaker at Stag’s Leap Winery. From 1990 to 1995, Graff was the Assistant Winemaker and Vineyard Manager at Schramsberg Vineyards, where he honed his craft in making sparkling wines according to the méthode champenoise. During his tenure at Schramsberg, he also served as Technical Director and Winemaker at Caves Transmontanas in Portugal, a
Schramsberg joint venture. Then in 1995, Graff joined Cordoniu in Napa (now Artesa) as Sparkling Winemaker.

When Graff is not at the winery with his chocolate Labrador, Bristol, in tow, he enjoys international travel, hiking, and golf. He is also an avid mountain biker and fly-fisherman.

White

A compelling combination of vanilla, mango, and pineapple aromas invite the nose into this wine, where wafts of lemon curd and toast arise. The palate is rich in texture, balanced by brilliant, bracing acidity. Flavors of magnolia blossom, honey, and crème brûlée mingle in delicious harmony leading to a soft yet lengthy finish.

Deriving from stellar vineyard sites, this beautiful wine exhibits the Rutherford appellation’s signature earthy tone. Fresh, with characteristics of cassis, red currant and mocha, it is also dusty and mineral at its core. Full bodied and well structured, it shows an underlying softness and finds plenty of length and grace.

This robust Cabernet Sauvignon shows balance and complexity - a blend of dark berry, generous oak notes, clove, and nutmeg. This is a supple and complex wine, full-bodied in style, with a punch of power, ripeness, and elegance from start to finish.

Sparkling

Coming entirely from Frank Family's Lewis Vineyard in Carneros, our signature sparkling wine shows great finesse and quality. It is poised between crisp minerality and delightful toastiness. Creamy texture supports a palate of lemon zest and green apple with lasting notes of hazelnut and brioche.

Fortified

The Zinfandel Port boasts aromas of graham cracker, roasted nuts, mocha, and molten chocolate. The mouth continues the super-dense, super-rich experience with all elements of the chocolate spectrum, and a nutty, salty end, reminiscent more of Madeira than port. The decadence of the wine makes it easy to enjoy, and the maple syrup, coffee finish lasts more than a minute.

Named in honor of the matriarch of the Frank Family, Edythe, the Lady Edythe Reserve is a beautifully mature and rich sparkling wine. It shines with minerality and texture of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from our Lewis Vineyard in Carneros. Its intensity and concentration come from resting on spent yeast for nearly five years before disgorgement. The six additional months spent resting post-disgorgement make for a ripe, yet toasty wine, crisp and deliciously in balance.

A profoundly beautiful wine, powerful yet focused, in addition to lively and fresh. The palate is tremendous in cassis, blackberry and mocha flavors, and the 75% new French oak provides perfect additions of cedar and caramel. This finely-crafted wine is soft and generous to drink now and will develop gracefully over time.

Beautiful ink purple in color and magnificently concentrated in flavors, this full-bodied wine takes you on a full flavor experience. Aromas of earth, allspice, and baked blueberries jump from the glass, while dark chocolate, nutmeg, and cedar flood the palate. This wine is layered, well-structured, and ready to be paired with food.

A dark ruby in the glass, our Winston Hill Sangiovese opens with inviting aromas of black currant and tea leaf. Bold flavors of elderberry and baked cherry pie are balanced by a touch of toasted oak gracing the palate with a long, lengthy finish. This full-bodied wine features approachable yet zesty tannins that will prove the test of time in the right cellar conditions.

The Late Harvest Chardonnay radiates purity and opulence with its yellow amber hues. Intense aromas of dried apricots, quince paste, and hints of pear lead into a wet stone minerality, classic of botrytized wines. The palate is beautifully balanced with layers of spice and honey that mingle with exotic notes of candied mango and pineapple. The incredible richness provides a seemingly endless finish.

A vibrant citrus-led nose delves into nuanced flavors of baked apple, toasted oak, and brioche on the full-bodied palate. The rich mouthfeel is harmonized by a lasting thread of bright acidity that lifts and maintains freshness on the long finish. 

Fragrant earthiness lies beneath rich black cherry and plum flavors in this full-bodied, deep-colored wine. Mocha, cardamom, and baked cherry enhance the wine’s refreshing acidity and powerful tannins find harmony on the lingering finish.

A striking crimson red, the 2016 Rouge is a unique showstopper with lively aromas of bing cherry and rose petal. Bright flavors of ripe cranberry greet the palate, rounded out by hints of nutmeg and a creamy vanilla sensation for a lingering finish. Like all Frank Family sparkling wines, our Rouge is created using the méthode champenoise whereby the secondary fermentation occurs in the bottle. The beautiful ruby hue of this wine comes from leaving the Pinot Noir juice in contact with the grape skins for a brief period of time.

Rosé

From its beautiful rose gold hue to its refreshing acidity and lavish layers of strawberry, white peach, and orange blossom, this wine offers a brilliant expression of Carneros rosé that is the perfect package of pure quenchability. It’s a wine that is both serious yet whimsical – and that’s its charm.

Produced from Carneros Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, this elegant bubbly spent three years en tirage. It's a brilliant pink coral color, with tangy strawberry, orange peel, and cherry flavors. Bubbles are compact and finessed, with lively acidity, finishing with a refreshing burst of minerality framed by creamy nuances.

Offering elegance, complexity, richness, and long-term ageability, the 2016 Owner's Blend is an exemplary representation of the Rutherford vineyards from which it comes from. The inclusion of 16% Cabernet Franc adds beautiful aromas of blackberry blossom and red currants. Balanced and rich in the mouth, its notes of cassis liqueur, dark chocolate, and leather are stunning. The finish is round and refined and will continue to develop and age gracefully in magnum for three decades or more.

Named in honor of Frank Family’s owner and founder Richard Harvey Frank, the second vintage of RHF is a complex and savory wine that comes from our estate vineyards in the heart of the Rutherford appellation. Bold, full bodied and textured it shines in toasted oak, blackberries, and punches of cinnamon and classic Rutherford dust. Dark chocolate lingers around ripe currant and a subtle hint of vanilla on the endless finish.
