Winemaking
This is the 7th vintage of Villa Ragazzi Faraona, our “super Tuscan” style blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. The idea is to “amp up the Sangiovese" for those who like a bit more weight or darker color in their red wines.
Our challenge is to do this without allowing Cabernet to overwhelm the more subtle Sangiovese characters. We want Sangiovese to lead this parade.
The wines were aged separately in one-year old French oak for 15 months before considering the blend.
Faraona (pronounced far-a-own'-a) is Italian for guinea fowl, a game bird raised domestically in Europe. The Rodenos named this wine in honor of a memorable introduction to roast faraona served with a fine Barbaresco at Il Giardino da Felicin in Monforte d’Alba.
Food Pairing
This ageworthy wine can be cellared beneficially for 15 years or longer, or enjoyed in its youth with hearty, flavorful foods.
