Nose
Fruit forward (much like Big River Zinfandel) with aromas of blackberries, dark cherries, cardamom, and vanilla.
Palate
This is certainly a very complex, and mouth-filling Zinfandel. Layered with flavors of raspberry jam, espresso, and supple tannins. Nicely balanced and mouth wateringly juicy.
Growing Conditions
The collection of Zin clones we planted in our very own heritage vineyard back in 1997 are old enough to be producing excellent wine. These vines grew from budwood collected from several of Sonoma County’s finest old-vine Zinfandel vineyards. The 2014 was Gehricke Estate’s best vintage to date. The 2014 was a very nice vintage, producing wines with ripe flavors and good intensity. The weather was not-too-hot toward the end, and the fruit turned out great.
Aging
Aged 19 months in 100% French oak, 20% new.
Appearance
A very dark garnet color contributed by the Petite Sirah.
