A brief history
Tucked away deep in the recesses of Napa Valley you'll find one of California's secret treasures. Pope Valley is one of the fastest growing wine regions in the area, yet it still retains a peaceful country feel. Pope Valley is also home to Pope Valley Winery, with over a century of history, Pope Valley Winery elicits the feel of the early California pioneer lifestyle and provides our visitors with a chance to reflect back on simpler times.; Built into the hillside the winery itself sits three stories high and houses a handcrafted cellar constructed from massive hand hewn redwood timbers, which were sourced from the local Oathill Quicksilver Mine in the 1800's. Our cellar was created over a course of nine years and is still utilized today to cellar the barrels of our small lot wines just as it was used back in the late 1800's. Also on the property is the original homestead farmhouse, and a blacksmith's workshop that will take you back in time with all of the century old tools still inside.; The winery was purchased in 1997 by the Eakle family and is now being operated by siblings David Eakle and Diana Eakle-Hawkins. Pope Valley Winery lovingly produces just under 5,000 cases a year of hand crafted wines from their family owned vineyards. Pope Valley Winery is noted for its Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc, and Sangiovese. Other wonderful wines to look for when you stop in for a tasting include Merlot, Bella Rosa, Zinfandel Port, and our red wine blends Tre Uve and Faultline.
