Founded in 1988, Patz & Hall has become one of California’s most highly regarded wineries with a celebrated portfolio of single-vineyard wines. Though Patz & Hall was not the first California winery to make vineyard-designate Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs, it was one of the first to introduce these wines to a wider audience outside of wine clubs and tasting rooms.

To achieve their goal of making exceptional limited-production Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays, the founders held a commitment to developing close personal relationships with many of California’s finest growers, which have become the cornerstones of the winery’s success.

In Patz & Hall’s state-of-the-art, purpose-built winery in Sonoma, both traditional and cutting-edge techniques are applied, including a unique, custom barrel program. To reveal the distinct identity of the legendary sites it works with, Patz & Hall applies a consistent winemaking approach that has been refined to underscore the finesse, depth and complexity of each vineyard. Located in the Sonoma Coast, Carneros (Napa Valley), Russian River Valley, Mendocino County and Santa Lucia Highlands, these vineyards span California’s finest winegrowing regions.

In 1967, Warren Dutton planted some of the first Chardonnay vines in western Sonoma. Sons Steve and Joe Dutton, along with their mother Gail, carry on in Warren’s footsteps with what is now one of Sonoma County’s most successful vineyard operations. We are able to select from blocks of Chardonnay largely planted with California heirloom clones (Robert Young, Rued, Hyde-Wente and UC Davis Clone 4) for the Dutton Ranch Chardonnay bottling.
