Palate
The 2015 Adaptation Petite Sirah yields a deep, dark purple hue,
unveiling a bevy of wild berries, Black Mission figs, incense, chai tea
and baking spices graduating into gingerbread and hints of roasted
coffee beans. This full-bodied wine boasts a gorgeous texture with a
combination of richness and density that give way to the elegant and
weightless finish.
Growing Conditions
The 2015 Adaptation Petite Sirah is crafted from two of our favorite
Napa Valley vineyards, Kennefick Ranch Vineyard in Calistoga,
and Langtry Vineyard located just outside of Pope Valley in the
Northeastern corner of the Napa Valley and Ink Grade Vineyard on
the backside of Howell Mountain. Thriving in the warm climate that
these two vineyard sites provide, the fruit results in a wine that is truly
expressive of the respective terroir.
Production: 38 Barrels
Harvest
We were off to an early start in 2015 after warm weather throughout
the winter and early spring. However, a cool month in May during
flowering drastically reduced the crop size. Yields were unusually
low with only one cluster per shoot in most vineyard blocks. As the
summer months commenced, Mother Nature brought more heat which
resulted in the earliest harvest on record.
Winemaking
The grapes were destrammed and partially crushed into stainless steel
tanks in preparation for maceration. The tank temperatures were
lowered to 55°F for a 48-hour cold soak just before yeast inoculation
to initiate primary fermentation. Maceration lasted 6-12 days at a
maximum temperature of 95°F.
Aging
The wine was aged in 50% new
French and American oak barrels and 50% once used barrels for 18
months.
