Nose

This is an elegant, full-bodied wine with aromas of wild berries, mocha, cured meats, earth and fine French oak.

Palate

In the glass, the flavors expand with deep notes of blackberry, boysenberry, dark cherry, raspberry, and sarsaparilla and savory spices.

Growing Conditions

The Pauli Ranch Vineyard was planted by the Mondavi’s just north of Ukiah on the valley floor. This benchland vineyard lies in an old river bed with gravely soil; this terroir is perfect to produce a full-flavored Sangiovese.

Bottling

Bottled September 12, 2013.

Winemaking

All the grapes were hand-picked, cold soaked for three days, then fermented in open-top containers for fourteen days.

Aging

Barrel aged for twelve months in 30% new American oak barrels.

Food Pairing

Pairs well with roasted duck, lamb, aged beef and robust sauces.
