Nose

Once again Jolie presents as the most oral of Maggy Hawk with opulent aromas of rose petals and pennyroyal alongside notes of pomegranate and red cherry.

Palate

The palate reveals a delicate but dened flavor structure of red currant, blueberry tea and sweet spices with subtle notes of anise. This continues to be a wine that demonstrates the classic beauty of Pinot Noir.

Harvest

Similar to the near perfect weather conditions of 2012, this vintage was graced with a long, slow approach to harvest and plenty of time to deliberate on the ideal pick date for each block. Following the successful pattern of 2012, this steeply sloped block was harvested multiple times over a 10 day period from October 8th to October 18th. This long harvest allowed the wine to display the full range of characteristics possible with the 115 clone. Sections picked early provided pretty oral and tea leaf elements of the blend while the portions picked 9-10 days later contributed the classic blue fruit and anise notes.

Winemaking

Beginning with a ve day cold soak, this wine utilized the slow moving AMH yeast that effectively carried the fermentation for two weeks in tank. Punch-downs were performed one-to-three times daily to aide in the extraction of flavors and color profile desirable for Pinot Noir. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was racked into a blend and began its aging regime until bottling in the following winter.
