Nose

Opening with a spicy and hedonistic nose, Afleet’s subtle earthy undertones make way for robust wine.

Palate

The palate initially presents dense and concentrated, but a fresh acidity brings light to a wonderful expression of blackberry, espresso bean, cigar box and conifer in this beautifully balanced wine. With exceptional consistency each year, this is a wine that will continue to open up and age gracefully – a true tribute to its namesake, Afleet Alex

Harvest

Similar to the near perfect weather conditions of 2012, this vintage was graced with a long, slow approach to harvest and plenty of time to deliberate on the ideal pick date for each block. Much like the trend of 2012, the fruit of Afleet was harvested in a single day, October 8th.

Winemaking

Beginning with a five day cold soak, this wine utilized the slow moving AMH yeast that effectively carried the fermentation for two weeks in tank. Punch-downs were performed one-to-three times daily to aide in the extraction of flavors and color profile desirable for Pinot Noir. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was racked into a blend and began its aging regime until bottling in the following winter.
