Nose
Our 2016 Monte Rosso Malbec offers enticing aromas of cedar, fresh plum and a hint of pepper.
Palate
On the palate, lush notes of blackberry jam, dark roasted coffee and blackcurrant harmonize for a densely layered, full-bodied wine.
Growing Conditions
The Monte Rosso Vineyard is perched in the Mayacamas Mountains, a thousand feet above the Sonoma Valley. Named for its iron-rich, red volcanic soils, Monte Rosso has produced grapes of unmistakable character for more than a century. Three generations of Martinis have made wine from this iconic vineyard and it continues to inspire our winemaking team on a profound level. Monte Rosso remains the source of some of the most coveted bottles in the Louis M. Martini portfolio.
Harvest
Our Monte Rosso Vineyard Malbec was hand harvested and sorted.
Aging
At the winery, the grapes underwent a three-day cold soak and fermented in 3.5 and 7-ton open-top tanks. The wine aged for a total of 15 months in a combination of French oak barrels (45% new) and American oak barrels (16% new).
