Nose
Open aromas of ripe berries, currants, cocoa powder, and a hint of licorice. Very pure and concentrated with lovely french oak nuances and layers.
Palate
Across the palate, it is expressive, explosive yet refined, with great balance and ripeness, and no trace of bitterness. Perfectly chewy textural tannins in the mid palate with amazing length. Impressive right out of the gate, but will prove to be quite age worthy as well.
Growing Conditions
Like the popular 2012 & 2013 vintages, 2014 was a hot, early harvest season with a lot of concentrated, big, ripe wines produced. The effects of the drought continued to be felt, and it was also the year of the south Napa earthquake, which occurred on August 24th. In spite of these challenges, wine critics & producers lauded the vintage, and it has been an anticipated release in the years since then.
Aging
100% French oak barrels 22 months, variety of coopers and barrel ages
Appearance
Dark blackberry in color.
