Nose
The nose boasts aromas of rich, juicy blueberries and
blackberries followed by hints of toffee, cinnamon and toasty oak.
Palate
It’s an elegant
wine with refined and balanced tannins and a touch of softness—a pleasant
surprise for Petite Sirah. Bright berry
fruit and subtle notes of brown sugar carry through to the finish.
Growing Conditions
Grapes for the Folie à Deux 2013 Alexander Valley Petite Sirah are carefully
selected from small lots in our estate vineyard in Cloverdale. Nestled in northern
Sonoma County, the Alexander Valley AVA stretches 22 miles from Healdsburg
to Cloverdale following the Russian River’s winding course. Cloverdale, in
particular, has been noted for its high-quality Petite Sirah vineyards, growing
deep-colored and solid-structured Petite Sirah.
Harvest
2013 was a phenomenal vintage for Sonoma County. Harvest started slightly
earlier than previous years yet the pace quickly sped up towards the end of
August and throughout September as many varieties ripened at the same time.
Overall fruit quality was exceptional, achieving full ripeness on every metric.
Aging
Following an eight-day maceration period, the lots are aged for 17 months in 75%
French Oak and 25% American Oak, making this wine rich and concentrated.
Appearance
The 2013 Folie à Deux Alexander Valley Petite Sirah showcases a deep purple in
the glass and embraces the essence of the Alexander Valley.
