Ashes & Diamonds’ 2018 Blanc is a singular wine in many respects. It’s the only white wine produced in our portfolio, but what truly makes this wine is its focus on age. The age of a nearly century-old Sémillon vineyard (Yount Mill) in Yountville for depth and complexity, framed by a bright, zesty Sauvignon Blanc from Ryan’s Vineyard in Oak Knoll. Aged 12 months in-barrel, then an additional 24 months in-bottle, Ashes & Diamonds’ Blanc finally reveals itself as the wine it was meant to be: age-worthy, complex, yet utterly refreshing.

ASHES & DIAMONDS’ Mountain Cuvée “Saffron Vineyard” comes from Lisa Chu’s organically farmed Mt. Veeder site, located high above the fog inversion line at an altitude of 1,500 feet, where daytime temperatures are often 15 degrees cooler than on the valley floor. the deep-rooted Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapevines were planted in 2000 in thin soils comprised of uplifted marine sediment and fractured shale. Soils with naturally low fertility and no irrigation make for naturally balanced grapevines with low yields and small berries. Once at the winery, the grapes are cold-soaked until native fermentation begins. The resulting wine is bouncy and outgoing, with explosive red fruit aromas like biting into a ripe, juicy plum, and fine, focused tannins.

ASHES & DIAMONDS’ Blanc is a fully ripe and textured, yet bright, zesty and supremely age-worthy blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon from three carefully-chosen vineyards in Napa Valley’s Oak Knoll District and Yountville.

Red Hen Vineyard is another of Bart and Daphne Araujo’s biodynamically farmed sites. The property sits in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley, located in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains, across Highway 29 from A&D Vineyard. With well-draining gravel and cobblestones suspended in alluvial silt and clay, the soil here acts like a sponge, naturally pulling rainwater down from the mountains and requiring little to no irrigation. It also encourages fine tannins and finesse in the resulting wines. Red Hen’s Cabernets have a quiet power, poise and impressive length with silky, weightless tannins that are the hallmark of this benchland site.

ASHES & DIAMONDS’ Grand Vin is a wine of finesse and elegance that maintains fresh red and blue fruit flavors while exalting secondary characteristics of spice and herbal tones. The blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc comes from 30-year-old vines grown in gravelly clay loam at ASHES & DIAMONDS Vineyard in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley.

ASHES & DIAMONDS’ Cabernet Sauvignon “Mountain Peak” comes from an organically farmed vineyard situated high atop the Atlas Peak AVA in the Vaca Mountains, at an altitude of 1,400 feet. Planted in 2000, the site’s thin, rugged soils are 60% rock content, resulting in low yields, tiny berries and loose clusters that maintain the conspicuous power of mountain fruit in the pour of a glass. Once in the winery, the grapes are cold-soaked until the start of native fermentation. The resulting single-vineyard wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that’s rich and densely-packed, savory with dried sage and a signature cocoa aroma.

ASHES & DIAMONDS’ Cabernet Franc is a naturally restrained, balanced wine with subtle power and aromatic finesse that comes from the volcanic clay and sandy loam soils of select vineyards in Napa Valley’s cooler south side (Los Carneros, Oak Knoll District and Yountville).

ASHES & DIAMONDS’ Cabernet Sauvignon “Vineyard I" comes from a historic vineyard in the heart of Rutherford, a place that put Napa Valley on the world stage in the 1960s. As an homage to this golden era and its pioneers, we set out to rediscover the wines of the period. We partnered with the grower to farm the grapes in the traditional manner and harvested them at lower brix, matching the typical ripeness levels from this bygone era. Once in barrel, we blended French and American oak, the predominant method of the time. The resulting wine is tightly-knit, savory, single-varietal Cabernet Sauvignon that integrates heavenly aromas and flavors of dried herbs, tobacco, tea and crunchy red fruit, destined to be aged for decades to come.

ASHES & DIAMONDS’ Cabernet Sauvignon “Rancho Pequeño Vineyard” comes from Bart and Daphne Araujo’s Oakville vineyard, on the east side of the valley floor. Its deep soils are composed of alluvial loam washed down from the eastern Vaca Mountains, maintaining a high water table resulting in little to no need for irrigation. The vineyards bask in the afternoon sunshine and are replenished by a cool marine influence at dusk and dawn. The resulting wine is a kaleidoscope of aromatics ranging from rose to game, bright and crunchy red fruit flavors with weightless power and purity.
