Nose

The nose is rich, with powerful blueberry, currant, crushed rock and licorice aromas.

Palate

Earthy flavors are framed by youthful, chewy tannins and a robust, dense, complex structure. This wine reflects the intensity of its mountain origins and has tremendous aging potential with a long, spicy finish and hints of baking spice.

Growing Conditions

The 2014 growing season in Napa Valley was preceded by an exceptionally dry
winter which also included some of the coldest days on record. It began with an
early bud-break, followed by a mild spring and rain early on in the season. It was an
early season from bud-break to evasion to harvest, with an unexpected earthquake
in late August, and some hail in late September, to keep the winemakers on their
toes. All in all, 2014 delivered a vintage of exceptional quality.

Harvest

Vineyard Information:

Haystack Vineyard, Atlas Peak

The Atlas Peak region, Napa Valley’s highest appellation, is home to our Haystack
Vineyard, an extremely rocky site, where struggling vines create small, intensely
concentrated berry clusters. Resting at 1,500 feet in the Vaca Mountains, this
picturesque, 22-acre vineyard produces expressive red wines with complex layers
of flavor.

Cloud’s Ne st Vineyard, Mt. Ve e der

Soaring high above the valley floor to 1,500 feet in the Mt. Veeder appellation,
our 13-acre Cloud’s Nest Vineyard is incredibly steep with gravelly soil. The vines
here struggle to survive in the rugged, unforgiving terrain of the Mayacamas
Mountains, resulting in wines with exceptional complexity and intensity. A cool,
eastern exposure gives the grapes more time on the vine to develop the region’s
signature bold, luscious flavors.
