A brief history
In 1978, we purchased a small home on fifty acres of land in Calistoga, near the northern end of Napa Valley, as a kind of retreat for our young family. The property included beautiful rocky hills, a self-contained valley, a charming old barn and a small lake at the far end. For years, we had goats, horses and sheep grazing our hillside, and when our hay crop was harvested, our family played softball and soccer on the field. The property has served as a wonderful family gathering place, and we have enjoyed swimming, row-boating and fishing for bass on the lake. In recent years, we built a new home and a caretaker’s house, remodeled the barn, and relandscaped the property around our home. We also planted a grove of mature Tuscan olive trees and began producing olive oil for family and friends. Most exciting of all, we planted a small vineyard and began producing wine under our “Montgomery Vineyard” label.
